Control Of Substances Hazzardous to Health (COSHH)

The law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health and reduce workers exposure to hazardous substances by:

  • Finding out what the health hazards are;
  • Deciding how to prevent harm to health (risk assessment);
  • Providing control measures to reduce harm to health;
  • Making sure they are used ;
  • Keeping all control measures in good working order;
  • Providing information, instruction and training for employees and others;
  • Providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases;
  • Planning for emergencies.

Most businesses use substances, or products that could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people if used in an unintended or unregulated way. Sometimes these substances are easily recognised as harmful, such as paint or bleach, but other substances might be more difficult to recognise as hazzardous to health, such as dust from natural materials which may also be harmful or cement powder that can cause skin burns.

In order to help you assess what, if any, hazzards are present when using Pavestone products you can download the relevent Safety Data Sheet.
