Porcelain Setts

Porcelain Setts

Porcelain Setts are often used to border paving with a contrasting colour adding a designed personalised element and style. They can create gentle or sweeping curves to a border, replacing often less interesting, straight lines.

Setts can likewise be used to fill in between different sizes of paving, further adding character to your garden, or to create impressive features in the garden, such as cobbled squares, circles or other intriguing random patterns.

Available 'off the shelf' in two sizes 100 x 100mm and 200 x 100mm.

Pavestone offers three shades 'from stock' which can be contrasted alongside most of our porcelain paving ranges.  Available with sawn edges produce a neat uniformed edging tile or with a bullnose.

Available in two sizes & threecolourways from stock:

100 x 100mm

200 x 100mm.

Porcelain setts are available through our Pavestone Bespoke service in almost all colours and sizes.

Calibra porcelain tiles can be profiled with a choice of edge profiles for making steps or smooth edges for raised patios.

See Pavestone Bespoke.

Laying Comments

During installation It is essential to use a Priming Slurry to facilitate a good bond between the tile and the bedding mortar. This will ensure the tiles do not become loose overtime or 'rock' when walked over.

Priming Slurry should be applied to the underside of each paving tile just prior to laying. Refer to the Porcelain Installation Guide if in any doubt.

A Flexible Jointing Grout should be used for jointing the paving and care must be taken not to let it dry on the surface of the tile.

Laying Comments

Porcelain Sett tiles are rectified to give a calibrated, dimensional accuracy. This enables closer jointing so that the tiles can appear as one large uninterrupted, seamless surface of stone flooring.

A rectified floor tile is one whose edges are perfectly vertical with respect to it's surface. This is a result of precise machining of a regular unrectified tile, so that each of the four sides will be at a 90° angle to the top and bottom faces of the tile.

Lay on an MOT Type 1 or GSB aggregate sub-base, over a geo-textile covering.

Set the paving tiles on a full wet mortar bed (40mm), using a 5:1 sharp sand : cement ratio.

Cut tiles with a 'Diamond Porcelain Cutting Blade' (circular no teeth) on a hand tool  or table saw.  Use 'water dust suppression'.

It is essential to use a Priming Slurry, which should be applied to the underside of each paving tile just prior to laying.

Joint width ideally 5mm (optimum cosmetically).

Porcelain is manufactured in batches and the colour and texture can vary from batch to batch. It is therefore essential to lay the paving by mixing the tiles from each of the packs that are to be laid. This ensures that the overall desired hue is achieved and evens out any slight colour discrepancies. Laying your patio one pallet at a time can lead to slight but visible colour banding.

Keep a note of the 'batch code' of the porcelain being laid in case you need more to complete or extend your paved area. This can be found on the packaging (usually a number followed by a letter, or a six digit number).

flexible jointing grout should be used to joint the tiles and care must be taken not to let it dry on the surface of the tile.

Please refer to our laying instructions if in any doubt.

Keep your paving looking superb, year after year!
