Discovery Porcelain
Discovery Porcelain
Discovery porcelain paving is the largest paving tile within the Pavestone range. The substantial size of these large patio slabs reduces the number of jointing lines required, facilitating an almost seamless beautiful expanse of flooring.
Ideal projects would be minimalist, contemporary designed gardens with significant space. The ‘Grande’ size of Discovery makes for a dramatic impact and a luxurious statement in larger gardens.
Hard wearing and with little maintenance required Discovery porcelain paving is reproduced in four stone colours with a light textured finish.
Size: 1200mm x 600mm
Discovery porcelain can be profiled with a choice of edge profiles for making steps or smooth edges for raised patios.
See Pavestone Bespoke.

Key features
- R11Anti-slip Finish**.
- Discovery porcelain paving tiles will not be affected by the seasonal weather changes and will not deteriorate in freezing weather conditions that can see some stone surfaces deteriorate gradually.
- Discovery porcelain paving tiles are resistant to acid and alkali chemicals such as fertilizers and lawn treatments. Moss and algae cannot get established as they can on stone.
- Discovery porcelain paving tiles will not experience colour fading. Blacks will stay black, not turn to grey, light colours will stay faithful and will not turn grey/brown. In summary they will stay looking aesthetically as laid for many years with minimal cleaning maintenance.
NOTES
* With 'Rectified' porcelain paving the dimensional variation between the size of individual paving slabs, within a batch, is much less than that of a non-rectified tile. This is because it is cut to size after the tile has been fired (baked) in the kiln. Typical variance +/- 2mm.
The actual tile dimensions are 'nominal' and may be less than the stated nominal measurements by up to 5mm. However, in each batch the variation between tiles will only be +/-2mm. When tiling you should always use tiles from the same production batch.
Always check the batch number on the packaging when laying porcelain paving as this will ensure the variation in sizes between the slabs is minimal.
** R11 Anti-slip Finish is the latest development to meet the growing demand for porcelain outdoor paving. This unique finish roughens the tile surface without changing its appearance giving good grip underfoot in damp and wet weather.

Laying Comments
Discovery porcelain patio paving tiles are rectified to give a calibrated, dimensional accuracy. This enables closer jointing so that the tiles can appear as one large uninterrupted, seamless surface of stone flooring.
A rectified floor tile is one whose edges are perfectly vertical with respect to it's surface. This is a result of precise machining of a regular unrectified tile, so that each of the four sides will be at a 90° angle to the top and bottom faces of the tile.
Lay on an MOT Type 1 or GSB aggregate sub-base, over a geo-textile covering.
Set the paving tiles on a full wet mortar bed (40mm), using a 5:1 sharp sand : cement ratio.
Cut tiles with a 'Diamond Porcelain Cutting Blade' (circular no teeth) on a hand tool or table saw. Use 'water dust suppression'.
It is essential to use a Priming Slurry, which should be applied to the underside of each paving tile just prior to laying.
Joint width ideally 5mm (optimum cosmetically).
Porcelain is manufactured in batches and the colour and texture can vary from batch to batch. It is therefore essential to lay the paving by mixing the tiles from each of the packs that are to be laid. This ensures that the overall desired hue is achieved and evens out any slight colour discrepancies. Laying your patio one pallet at a time can lead to slight but visible colour banding.
Keep a note of the 'batch code' of the porcelain being laid in case you need more to complete or extend your paved area. This can be found on the packaging (usually a number followed by a letter, or a six digit number).
A flexible jointing grout should be used to joint the tiles and care must be taken not to let it dry on the surface of the tile.
Please refer to our laying instructions if in any doubt.
