It was celebration time on the 18 June when Bekstone won the Oxford County Council Sustainability Category at the Oxford Business Awards. Bekstone was able to demonstrate commitment to the environment and responsibility in minimising the impact caused by their operations and supply chain by utilising reclaimed aggregates and recycled water in all their manufacturing processes. The judges were particularly impressed with the way Bekstone chose to use 100% sustainable "green" electricity to power both production facilities and their offices, culminating in a 40% reduction in carbon emissions during the last two years. The Bekstone Co2efficiency range of building materials has proved highly popular with house developers and specifiers who are looking for traditional walling and architectural masonry products, which offer proven sustainability and allow the developer to gain a higher rating against The Code For Sustainable Homes. The recently built and opened for public viewing Bicester Eco Demonstration House further exemplifies the manufacturing practices of Bekstone, when it was chosen to supply the walling, roofing and external paving over many competitors tendering for the prestigious contract . |

Winning a prestigious new supply contract for a luxury house development in the South West during the worst recession in over 50 years was never going to be easy.
"Just promoting the fantastic 'green' credentials of our Eco Co2- efficiency walling was probably not going to win it
alone, so we needed to pull out all stops" explains Jon Brummitt, Bekstone Brand Director. "So after significant research we produced a completely new profiled and finished walling block called 'Weathered Dressed'.
Bekstone Weathered Dressed walling has the appearance of walling stone that has endured the elements for hundreds of years and is representative of many stone buildings throughout the United Kingdom. Each block has a well-defined raised face and irregular shape resembling weather-beaten pitched or dressed stone.
“House builders are impressed that we are prepared to invest, even in these tough economic times, to help them sell houses” summed up Mr. Brummitt.

The Carbon Trust Standard is awarded to organisations that have genuinely reduced their carbon footprint and have committed to making further reductions year on year.
There is increasing public demand for all organisations to take responsibility for their carbon footprint. But, until now there hasn’t been a standard that defines good practice, or clearly distinguishes those organisations, which are actually reducing their carbon footprint.

Plenty of organisations claim to be green, carbon conscious and environmentally friendly but consumers are becoming
increasingly sceptical towards such claims. The Carbon Trust Standard has been designed to cut through the confusion and provide a much needed, clear and robust definition of good practice.
It is the definitive proof of Bekstone’s commitment to, and achievement of, carbon reduction. Achieving the Carbon Trust Standard demonstrates a genuine commitment to carbon reduction and confirms Bekstone’s green credentials. It recognises and validates the work Bekstone has done, and the financial and carbon savings we have made.
The Carbon Trust standard is awarded to organisations that measure, manage and reduce their carbon footprint. Organisations that achieve the Standard are taking real action to reduce their direct impact on climate change.
